Ronga Chah Group is proudly based in Jorhat, Assam, India — a region where the story of Indian tea truly began.
Assam is the largest tea-producing region in India, and India stands as the second-largest tea producer and exporter in the world. But it’s in Jorhat where tea first took root as an industry — and a legacy.
Long before commercial plantations, the Chingpho tribes of Assam harvested wild tea leaves from the forests and used them as traditional medicine. They believed these wild brews added years to their lives — both in body and in spirit.
In 1850, visionary farmer Maniram Dewan, alongside Robert Bruce, established the first commercially planted tea garden in Jorhat — marking the dawn of India’s tea industry. Later, in 1911, Jorhat became home to the Tocklai Tea Research Institute, India’s very first tea research institute, further cementing its place in global tea history. Inspired by this rich heritage, we founded Ronga Chah Group with one clear goal: To share Assam’s tea legacy with the world. We are not just a tea company. We are keepers of tradition, curators of purity, and exporters of some of the finest, rarest, and most authentic teas from Assam — including the prestigious GI-Tagged Assam Orthodox Black Tea. Ronga Chah Group began with humble roots, deeply intertwined with Assam’s tea culture. Our family grew tea on ancestral land, surrounded by the rhythms of the garden — where tea wasn't just a crop, but a way of life. In the early days, we shared small batches of our hand-grown tea with friends, neighbours, and colleagues — just a few grams at a time. What started as a gesture of love soon sparked something bigger. We noticed both Indian and international friends deeply appreciated the purity, flavour, and story behind our teas.
That growing interest inspired us to dream bigger — and so, Ronga Chah Group was born. We started small, but with a clear purpose: to bring the authentic taste of Assam to the world, while preserving the soul of our tradition. Over time, our efforts grew into a full-fledged group of companies, dedicated to sourcing, crafting, and exporting premium, single-origin, and rare teas from Assam.
